Uniform Academic Calendar: A Boon for J-K Schools

The Education department Government Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has made a big change in the conduct of board examinations in Jammu & Kashmir. Now the board examinations of class 10th to 12th will be held simultaneously in the first week of March 2023. The examinations of difficult areas will be held in the second week of April in the Jammu and Kashmir zone.
With the introduction of the system of conducting simultaneous examinations for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir, children going in winter will not have to wait for admission.

Principal Secretary to the Government, Alok Kumar in an order issued said that on the basis of recommendations of the Committee, the sanction has been accorded to the operationalization of ” Uniform Academic Calendar” in the UT of J&K from the current academic session.
On April 30, 2022, vide Govt order No. 287-Edu of 2022. The government constituted a committee to introduce a uniform academic calendar in the school education department on the lines of the higher education department. The committee submitted its report to the government.
In addition to the hard zone of 30-35 percent of the Jammu and Kashmir division, a simultaneous on-board test will be held. Hard zone areas have 10-12 percent of students. In such a situation, the examination will be held in the second week of April, but the result will be released simultaneously in June. Students attending the 10th and 11th classes will get admission to the 11th and 12th classes. Students who fail will be able to continue their studies until the mid-term exam. Failure to pass the mid-term examination will result in cancellation of admission.
The mid-term exams will be held in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh in August. The results of these examinations will be published in October. The exam schedule, application form, and list of tough zones will be published by the board soon. Along with this, other important information for students including registration, renewal of registration, migration, and inter-school migration will be issued separately.
Apart from Jammu and Kashmir, other states of the country have a similar academic calendar. Choral exams for schools in the summer zone are held from March to April, and for schools in the winter zone from November to December. If children from the winter zone have to enroll in the summer zone, they have to wait three months. Now the board exams in both sections will be held simultaneously so that children’s education can start at the same time.
