Ramneek Bags National Award for Farming




Ramneek Manhas a journalist turned farmer, has brought laurels for the farmers of Bhadarwah by bagging this year’s prestigious National Award for Farming. The award was presented to him by his excellency the governor of Jammu and Kashmir Mr. N.N. Vohara during two day farmers exhibition held by Shere-e- Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology, Jammu. Hailing from village Sartangal of Bhadarwah Tehsil the journalist turned farmer (associated with J&K Reporter as Managing Editor) has to his credit a big Kiwi orchard, a huge apple garden of fifteen varieties, an orchard of Nectarine, Red Pear, special quality Plum, walnut and pecan nut, a vast Strawberry farm besides the biggest Fish Farm in private sector all established in just two years. According to him he is proposing to establish a small Dairy Farm besides setting up a Poultry Farm also this year. The young and energetic farmer is also involved in cultivation of different varieties of flowers and has formed a union of farmers called Kissan Foundation India to introduce & promote cash crop farming in the district which despite having great potential has been stuck to conservative farming. For his success, Ramneek Manhas gives credit to the officers like JL Sharma, the then Director Horticulture, K.S Charak and Fayaz Ahmed the Joint Director & Assistant Director of Fisheries respectively, KK Sharma, the Director of Floriculture besides scientists of Bhadarwah Campus of SKUAST particularly Dr.RM Sharma who not only inspired him to adopt the noble profession, but also extended full technical support. He also expresses his gratitude to the local MLA, M.S Niaz for helping him overcome official hurdles at various levels. The Award consists of a memento and a certificate of excellence in the field of innovative farming.
